Charlie's Alcove Our Loss
When our beloved cat Charlie died, my husband and I didn't work for nearly two weeks. I spend days finding all the old photos of Charlie, scanned them and put all the pictures on a disc so they were all in one place where we could access them at any time. I just felt I needed to do it. We picked out our favourite picture, had it framed with Charlie's name printed underneath.

We had Charlie cremated at the pet crematorium, he had some of his favourite toys with him in his basket and a T. shirt of my husbands he had been laying on. We chose a black urn with his name on it but to be honest we were in such a state of shock we didn't really take in all the choices avaiable. And what made it even worse because 'Charlie' is such a popular name for a pet, all the urns on display had 'in loving memory of Charlie' engraved on them.

I felt awful leaving Charlie at the crematorium, I felt we were leaving him on his own. We had to wait a few days before we could collect his ashes and for me that day couldn't come soon enough because I felt I wanted Charlie home with us.

Charlie now resides in a little alcove above a radiator, he loved warmth, and above the sofa where we sit, with a view out of the patio doors which he also loved. Charlie's urn, framed picture and a memorial candle are placed together here.

The staff at the crematorium were very sympathetic and caring and I would recommend a pet cremation because I think it gives your pet the respect, dignity and recognition deserved.

Charlie Remembered A Lovely Gift
For a Christmas present for my husband I ordered some special presents from Snapfish with pictures of Charlie on them. I bought a mug for my husband to use outside when gardening and the mug had a picture of Charlie in the garden and the mug inscribed with 'Daddy's little helper'.

I also bought a mousemat with Charlie's picture on. A rememberance book of Charlies photos. But I think the best present was the calendar, it took me hours of work on Snapfish putting together this calendar, a picture of Charlie on each calendar month, everyone's birthdays added, selected pictures of Charlie on special days with special little messages. My husband loved it I'm pleased to say. Everyone who sees it says what a lovely idea. My Mum wants a calendar now with pictures of all her children, grand children and great grand children.

You can buy lovely pet loss cards now which I think are very thoughtful, it helps to know that someone is thinking of you and your pet loss.

Final Resting Place
My sister and her husband lost their dog several years ago and they take Barney's ashes on holiday with them!

My Mum had two of her dogs buried in the garden of her old house and got very upset when she moved because she couldn't take them with her. So when you are making your decision about your pets final resting place its important to think about the future too. My Mum didn't think she would ever move.

Pet Cemeteries are very popular now with pet lovers. A pet loss needs to be remembered and the life celebrated for our own sanity.
