Pet Therapy, Healing For Your Animals.

Charlie

Pet therapy and alternative medicine for pets, is this the better way to alternative pet health.

Our animals are just as important to us as any other member of the family, pets are family members so we want them to be healthy and happy.

There are many forms of healing and alternative medicine for pets, whether the healing is for something physical or emotional.

Having a sick pet can be just as stressful as having a sick child, having experienced both its not pleasant. Having a sick pet you would take it to the Vet the same as you would take a sick child to see the Doctor, under no circumstances should you try to diagnose the problem yourself or rush out to the nearest alternative therapist for treatment. After you have visited the Vet and you know what the problem is, although this can take a while with waiting for test results, you can look at alternative pet health and complementary healing to run along side of the treatment prescribed by the Vet.

Drugs and Healing
When our cat Charlie first started to get sick, it started with a urinary blockage so he had to go into the animal hospital for 5 days to have the stones dispersed, he got over that but had to stay on a special diet. I learnt a lot about cat health during this time.

Some months later Charlie had a fit, although the Vet wasn't entirly sure if it was a fit, while he was in the animal hospital they had given him so many different drugs to try and keep him alive they weren't sure which drug had saved him. Pet therapy would not have helped Charlie at this time.

So when Charlie came home he was put on medication and we had to monitor his progress, if there was no improvement the dose would be increased and if still no improvement that drug would be eliminated and another one tried. We got to the stage where the anti-fitting drug made an improvement so he stayed on that. He was also taking a heart tablet because the Vet found he had an enlarged heart. The pet therapy of Reiki continued.

Three months later he had another fit where he went all limp so we took him to the vets again and again they kept him in. They didn't really know what was wrong with him so yet again it was more tests which all came back inconclusive. Charlie was fortunate to be treated by a wonderful caring Vet, she diagnosed a growth on the brain which couldn't be treated. Sadly Charlie died two months later. When we knew his time was limited we did everything we could to pamper him.

Making the choice
Having said all that, I would not have taken Charlie anywhere else except to the Vets because they are medical trained professionals. I am an Alternative practitioner but I would not and did not consider taking Charlie for alternative healing or medicine. Some situations are so serious where you just have to trust the experts. I did give Charlie regular Reiki healing the whole time of his illness but sadly when it is someones time to leave this world there isn't very much you can do to change it.

Use your judgement
Less serious problems and ongoing sickness can be treated by alternative medicine for pets. Most of the requests I get for pet therapy are for behaviour issues or skin complaints. Sometimes all that is needed is some basic obedience classes.

Sometimes all that is needed is common sense when it comes to looking after pets. But some unusual pets can be a bit more difficult to look after. Tortoise care is a bit more specialised so help is probably needed here.
